CASE STUDY: 3Sharp

Emissions Reporting and Supplier Commitments

Solutions: Emissions Reporting, GHG Inventory Management Plan

As more companies set goals to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and solidify net-zero targets, supply chain activity is coming under greater scrutiny. Medium and large organizations must track and monitor scope 3 emissions across their value chains and look to their suppliers to help cut emissions. For example, tech giant Microsoft requires its suppliers to disclose scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions data. 3Sharp, a Microsoft partner, was looking for help to calculate its emissions and develop a greenhouse gas inventory management plan (IMP), which was to be accompanied by a Consultancy Statement describing the approach taken to support 3Sharp’s annual disclosure effort.

Strategy

With expertise in data tracking and reporting, Environ was well positioned to help 3Sharp report its emissions to Microsoft. Providing quantitative accounting of GHG emissions and management reporting documentation allowed 3Sharp to meet its largest customer’s sustainability disclosure requirement. We assisted in developing 3Sharp’s GHG inventory, which includes emissions for purchased goods and services, fuel and energy-related activities, business travel, and employee commuting. We also supported 3Sharp as it developed its first GHG inventory management plan. The IMP, which is modeled after the U.S. EPA’s Greenhouse Gas Inventory Checklist, set the foundations for 3Sharp’s ongoing GHG accounting and established management practices that enable regular monitoring of applicable sources, quantities and efforts to minimize harmful impacts.

Key Outcomes:

Fulfilled customer requirements for reporting service-level emissions
Annual GHG inventory submission to the Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability platform.

Developed a framework to track emissions and guide reduction strategy
Greenhouse gas IMP, including management document outlining the company’s organizational and operational boundary conditions, emissions reporting, data management and base year, management tools and GHG reduction plan. The IMP also included a supplemental communication describing a value-add from 3Sharp’s product that could benefit clients by reducing greenhouse gas emissions

A Collaborative Partnership

Environ first engaged with 3Sharp in 2022. Year after year, our team has provided personalized services to help the company adapt to customer requests, from disclosing to CDP to report on its service-level emissions and preparing for changing regulations and standards. This has enabled 3Sharp to focus its resources on the business while relying on Environ to support the company as the “go-to” experts for sustainability-related questionnaires. We continue to produce 3Sharp’s annual report to Microsoft, and the GHG IMP we developed serves as a road map for the company’s GHG reduction strategy.

Year after year, our team has provided personalized services to help the company adapt to customer requests, from disclosing to CDP to report on its service-level emissions and preparing for changing regulations and standards.

Environ helps us focus on our core business and delivers our annual emissions reporting for compliance to our top clients. The partnership has been a win-win, and I’ve relied on the flexibility of the Environ team to support 3Sharp’s emissions inventory and management communications.
